Suppose you planned on meeting your online friend or maybe a blind date, and they are added to your Snapchat map. But at the planned time, the map says they are in a place, they are telling about a different place and you don’t know how to find them! Or maybe you found your partner is in a different place on the map.
So, what is actually right? How accurate is the Snapchat location? Don’t get frustrated or start a fight over what you are seeing on a dedicated social app! Snap’s map is not always accurate, they only show where the person last opened their Snapchat app when the internet connection was stable.
How Accurate is Snapchat Location?
Snap map is a bit old Snapchat feature that allows you to view and share locations with your friends upon using this app. It was one of the most polarizing features on Snapchat when it first launched as this method was the quickest and simplest way to figure out what someone’s Snapchat habits are.
Snap’s Maps are based on the most recent time you signed into the app. You can only see your friend’s location only if they share their location with you. In case your friends’ Bitmoji accounts are linked to Snapchat, their Bitmoji characters will appear on the map at their current position
Snapchat Location Service
Since Snapchat is so addicting and almost everyone uses it, any person sharing their location will be precise to within a few meters. The negative is that if someone can go a long time without looking at Snapchat, their location will not be updated.
And if they stop location services, their location won’t be updated even if they open the app. It will also depend on the network of the phone, lagged network won’t show you a precise location update. Failing to update the location for more than half an hour can result in a slow and incorrect Snap map.
Snapchat location is pretty nearly accurate and only fully accurate when everyone updates their location at the exact same time. But when they fail to update, their Bitmoji will remain in the place they last opened the App and you will think they are lying about their precise location, things can turn up pretty messy.
Also, in the Snap Map, the Bitmoji can merge the location of two people if they are near each other, it can show you are in the house next door! Totally crazy as it can create misunderstanding between people. That’s why don’t always believe the location your Snapchat is showing.
Even using a fake GPS (Global Positioning System) service, people can fake their location on the Snapchat Map. They can also link it to some other device that they won’t carry with them always, and it will show the location is fixed even when the person isn’t supposed to be there and mess with your head.
Now you know how accurate is Snapchat location service is, so don’t believe the internet blindly. For emergency or accurate location, use Life360, Find My Friends, or Google Maps instead of using Snapchat Map.
