If you physically move your mouse, the graphical pointer which is also referred to as the cursor will be displayed on the screen. The pointer has a variety of shapes to indicates the movement. It is also used in a text-based or graphical user interface to select anything, find options, doing different operations, copy or move anything, or various other things. Generally, computer inputs are made either by using of mouse or touchpad.   • You should unplug and plug back in the mouse. Sometimes the mouse may plug out like any other device, and you need to ‘reboot’ it by plugging it out and back into the USB socket might fix the issue.
  • Your current mouse might simply be broken or damaged permanently. In this situation, you need to try another mouse instate of your current one. If you have one more pointer device that you can use – plugin it.

At this situation you can solve this problem with the help of your keyboard by simply pressing the following combination: Fn + f3 / fn + f5 / fn 6+ f9 / fn +f11. But you should keep in mind that this combination depends on your keyboard and mouse model. If the fn keys don’t work for bringing the mouse cursor back, there could be some errors with your mouse driver in windows 10. Updating the Windows operating system might lead to drive or software compatibility issues. Updating your mouse drive will help you to fix the cursor disappearing problem on windows 10.

Restart Your Computer

Sometimes, simply restarting the operating system will able to fix certain Windows issues. Since you can not use your mouse or touchpad, you need to know how to restart your computer by using your keyboard. To restart your computer, you need to refer to the following steps:

Step 1: first of all, you should press the Windows icon + x keys at the same time.

Step 2: use the arrow up the key of your keyboard to select the shutdown or sign out option.

Step 4: wait until your computer restart and move your mouse to see if the mouse cursor appears on your computer display.

Updating the Mouse Driver

To update the mouse driver, you can refer to the following steps:

Step 1: first of all, you need to press the windows icon + r keys together to bring out the run prompt.

Step 3: the drive manager prompt will come out with a list. From the list, you need to find out the mice and other pointing devices option and expand it. You can use arrow keys to scroll down and use the right arrow key to expand it.

Step 5: from the context menu, you need to choose the update driver option. You can use the arrow key to choose it and hit on the enter button to select.

step 6: now, follow the on-screen installation instructions to finish the updates.

If your mouse driver is updated, the latest version may not be compatible with Windows 10. To roll back your mouse driver, you need to refer to the following steps:

Step 1: you need to repeat steps 1 to 3 from above.

Step 3: if you are on hd compliant mouse option, you should hit the enter key of your keyboard.  

Step 4: Hd compliant mouse properties window prompt will come out. On this window prompt, please make sure that you are on the driver tab. You need to press the tab key a couple of times until the selection is in general. Now, press the right arrow key to go to the driver tab.  

Step 5: Press the tab key a couple of times, until the rollback driver is selected, and then hit the enter key of your keyboard.

Step 6: Follow the on-screen instructions to finish fix this problem.

Step 1: first of all, you need to press the windows icon + r keys at the same time to launch the windows run prompt.

Step 2: on the textbox, you need to type main.cpl, and hit the enter key of your keyboard.

Step 3: the mouse properties window prompt will come. You need to press the tab key a couple of times, until the selection box on the click pad settings tab. Now, use the arrow left key to go to on pointer options tab.

Step 4: Press the tab key for more times as it takes you to reach an enhanced pointer precision option. You need to uncheck this option, and you can do this with the enter key.

Step 5: you should enable the display pointer tails option which on the visibility section.  Press the tab key to navigate to display pointer tail option, and use the enter key to enable this option.  

Step 6: Press the tab key to reach hide pointer while typing option and the user enter key to uncheck this option.

Step 7: Navigate to show the location of the pointer when I press the ctrl option and hit on entering the key to check this option.

Step 8: Finally go to the apply option and press the enter key. 

Step 9: Restart your operating system by using the technique discussed above (restart your computer).

To run windows 10 built-in troubleshoot, please refer the following steps:

Step 1: Press the Windows key of your keyboard to open the start menu.

Step 2: Press the tab key for more times as it takes you to reach the settings option which has a gear icon on it, and hit the enter key to open the settings menu.

Step 3: use arrow right key to reach on update & security option, and hit the enter key to open this option.

Step 4: from the left side list of this window prompt, you need to select the Troubleshoot option by using the tab and arrow down key.

Step 5: you need to go to the find and fix other problems section and select the hardware and devices option by using the tab key and arrow key simultaneously.

Step 6: Hit on the enter key to run troubleshoot to fix the cursor disappearing problem. 

Step 7: wait for the troubleshooting process, and then move your mouse to see if the mouse cursor is seen on your screen. If the problem still present, unplug your mouse and plug it back in.

Turn off Cortana

Turning off Cortana seems to be an unusual solution, but sometimes it works. You can try this method if other methods don’t work. To turn off Cortana, please refer to the following steps:

Step 1: Press the Windows key of your keyboard to open the start menu.

Step 2: Go to the search bar and type Cortana on it. Select the Cortana & search settings option.

Step 3: Settings window prompt will come. From this, set hey Cortana to off.  

Step 4: You should turn off the other Cortana options like use Cortana on the lock screen.

Step 5: After this process, restart your computer and check your mouse again. 

Run a Full System Scan

Malware or viruses may cause various problematic issues on your computer, and this may cause the cursor to disappear. Run a full system scan to fix may detect any malware running on your computer including mouse malfunctions. To run a full system scan on Windows 10, please refer to the following steps:

Step 1: First of all, you need to press the Windows key of your keyboard to open the start menu.

Step 2: On the windows search bar, you should type defender, and hit the enter key to launch windows defender.   

Step 3: On the windows defender security center prompt, you need to go to the left-hand panel by using the tab key, and select the virus & threat protection option.    

Step 4: In the new window prompt, you should select the advanced scan option.   

Step 5: Check the full scan option to launch a full system malware scan.

Conclusion

Using a mouse to operate different operations on windows 10 is quite expedient. But sometimes, after updating the Windows operating system like from windows 8 to windows 10 or make an update of your current version, the mouse cursor disappears. If the mouse cursor disappears out of nowhere, it seems like a nightmare. You need to fix this problem to make your computer efficient and useful.
