6 Reasons Why Your Magento 2 Web Store Development Goes Wrong

6 Reasons Why Your Magento 2 Web Store Development Goes Wrong

Any business can build an online store on Magento 2 eCommerce platform without coding. But even in that case, complications happen and can be real headaches if your team isn’t competent enough to solve them. Here are six common reasons for your development project’s possible failure.

1. Rushing into Development Without Learning the Basics

Saying that it’s effortless to build an eCommerce web store on Magento 2 doesn’t assume that it’s child play. You should dedicate quite some time to study at least the primary functionalities of the platform. It would be great to learn how to create pages, add product information to them, and do simple design and minor technical configurations. Of course, you can choose to hire a professional Magento 2 development company. But if you prefer to do it yourself, take it slow and learn first to avoid complications.

2. Checkout Modification

The second reason your Magento 2 eCommerce web store development process can fail is the initial payment page modification. The platform provides an excellent checkout page with an amazing user experience. So, it isn’t recommended to customize this page because it may lead to a cart abandonment index hike causing sales volume to decrease.

3. Adding Extensions Instead of Using Native Magento 2 Functionality

Many people know that Magento 2 is a flexible eCommerce web store development platform that allows adding extensions to enhance its functionality. Unfortunately, some start installing extensions without even checking whether Magento 2 provides those features out of the box or not. It’s the wrong approach. Extensions are third-party products. No matter how smoothly they are integrated with Magento 2, they cannot work better than the platform’s native features.

4. All eCommerce Platforms Have Identical Features

Your Magento 2 eCommerce store development will go wrong if you assume that all platforms have the same functionalities. If it’s true, then why do people need so many identical eCommerce platforms?

Let’s take PrestaShop vs Magento, for example. Unlike Magento 2, PrestaShop is an uncomplicated platform designed for small businesses with few items and don’t need large product catalogs. Unfortunately, PrestaShop cannot handle large stores, while Magento 2 is designed particularly for large ones.

5.  Not Defining the Scope of Work and Budget

Things may go wrong if you start your eCommerce web store development without a scope of work and budgeting. At some point, unexpected costs may appear, and you won’t have another option but to pay. Writing a scope of work doesn’t mean planning every cent, but it allows having a general idea about the project costs and timeline. As a result, you’ll avoid headaches and save a lot of time.

6.  Not Providing Sufficient Product Information

You may be so carried away with the technical configurations of your eCommerce web store that you forget to add detailed item descriptions. Always remember that potential customers know nothing about your products. They’ll know as much as you tell them and make buying decisions based on that info. Hence, make sure to add a high-resolution product image and write a detailed description of the product’s advantages and peculiarities.

Final Thoughts

Every project has its complications. But depending on your preparedness and competency, those complications can be eliminated fast or cause serious headaches. To avoid these issues, always learn Magento 2 development basics and never modify the default payment page. It’s recommended to use Magento’s built-in features and add additional extensions only if the platform lacks certain functionality. If you’re familiar with an eCommerce platform, don’t assume that all of them have identical features. Every platform is unique. And finally, always define the scope of work before starting a project and add rich product descriptions.
