Computer and TV screens have been revolutionized in the last two or three decades. As the picture quality and resolution are improving, the screen sizes tend to be larger and larger. Additionally, there have been inventions of different kinds of devices as such smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc. Each of these devices is peculiar in their sizes. As a result, web designers have to pay attention more to their work so that the contents fit on all sizes of screens irrespective of devices. This is called responsive web design. Besides this, people want to get access to the best possible monitors within their budget and the manufacturers want to extend their business. Hence, we see all kinds of improved monitors and screens. Resolution is an integral part whenever we talk of screen sizes.
The Most Common Screen Sizes and Resolutions
Once there was a time when people were more than happy in watching TV shows may be on a 16 inch sized black and white screen. Those are the days gone by and now we can see all the flat screens, curved screens, 32 inches, 48 inches screens, and so on. Not only the screen size is increasing but also the resolution and other aspects of picture quality are improving dramatically.
Suddenly, the users are engaged in a variety of activities including watching videos and movies, playing games, making web content, browsing websites, and whatnot along with the improvement in screen sizes and resolutions. Let us take a closer look at some of the most common screen sizes in our modern times.
3840 x 2160 Screen
It is one of the latest screens in the world of the monitor. It is also called 4K resolution for its almost 4 times more pixels compared to the full HD display. This huge amount of pixels makes sure that you can view clear, crisp, and realistic pictures on your screen. However, you would need a bigger screen size to take full advantage of this increased resolution. A TV screen of 48 inches or more along with a 4K resolution would provide a wonderful viewing experience for the users. Game lovers would want this kind of screen any day especially for playing games that are more visual resources-centric.
2560 x 1440 Screen
Although the 2560 x 1440 or the 2K screens have fewer amount of pixels compared to the 4K ones, the former one provides the kind of right balance or optimality between the resolution and the budget. Still many games are not even released in 4K as the technology is somewhat too advanced for the time being. This is where the 2K screens are more loved than the 4K screens despite having less resolution. If you have a 27-inch computer monitor and 1440p resolution to go with it, you will be able to get the best out of that screen setup.
1920 x 1080 Screen
Full HD was once the most common and widely used screen before the advent of the 2K and 4K monitors. Still, I would say that you will find the 1080p resolution on most smartphones. The 2K and 4K are really too much for 5.5 or 6 inches sized android phones. Yes, you can get a 2K resolution phone; but to be honest, it won’t be appropriate in terms of budgetary satisfaction. From another point of view, smartphones are good enough nowadays for any sort of computer activity. The web designers provide the same look of the websites on the smartphone as on the computer by using responsive web design. So, you can enjoy all the web content on a 5.5 inches phone as you do on a 25 inches screen. Yes, the things displayed are smaller on the full HD phones but the resolution wise is similar to the bigger sized screens.
1280 x 720 Screen
The HD or 720p or 1280 x 720p screens are still good enough to produce quality pictures both on computer monitors and smaller devices like tablets or smartphones. However, the screen sizes get smaller with the low resolution. And I would say a laptop of 15.6 inches still works fine with the 720p resolution. But you do not want to go beyond this size for this resolution especially if you are used to working with the greater resolution monitors. You do not want to see blurry and distorted images. Many older phones come with 1280 x 720 resolution and the users are mostly happy with their devices.
852 x 480 Screen
480p is probably the lowest range that you would want to go down to see quality pictures on your screen. Although it is not HD or ultra HD, you can watch videos and movies with the fair quality especially on smaller-sized screens. Remember one thing, resolution and screen size is not the only things to increase your viewing experience, the screen would still need a higher refresh rate, FPS, and aspect ratio to produce good picture quality. 480p is not the resolution you want to play modern games. The gamers should go for a better resolution than 480p along with more refresh rate and FPS in their buying.
Still, you will find the 360p, 240p, and 144p screens but these are not appropriate for the modern demands. On the other side of the spectrum, you will find screens of more than 4K resolution and these are not worth it either. Thus, from the range of 480p to 4K, you should choose an optimum one depending on the budget and your particular needs. Besides, most computer users prefer screen size in the range of 25 to 27 inches and you should also consider this kind of screen size.
All in all, a computer screen with 26 inches and 2K resolution should be the optimum one for most users. However, it is a generalized statement and there are many TV viewers and gamers who would love the 48 inches sized screen and 4K resolution to go with it and they are not wrong. At the end of the day, it is all about your choice, preference, and budget.
