Screen overlay! It is a frustrating word for Android, Samsung, LG, and even Windows users. “Screen overlay detected” is a frequent problem because this does not allow another app to launch. The more frustrating thing is that the reason behind this problem is hardly discovered. To turn off screen overlay is the only option here.

Screen overlay is like using one app over another app. For example, if you are using Whatsapp and then messages from Facebook messenger comes, then that messenger app is overlaying the screen. So sometimes when you install a new app like a webcam and try to give it some permissions, then a screen overlay detected. This means that the app can not get that permission because another app has access to remain on top of the screen always.

This happens mainly for two reasons. One is having floating apps on your phone and another is enabling screen overlay option of a certain app. Though this problem is quite frustrating, it can be easily solved by following some steps. So let us get started.

How to Turn Off Screen Overlay in Android Oreo

Much like hardware acceleration, screen overlay is yet another misunderstood yet a simple issue. For Android Oreo, at first, you have to pull down the notification shade and click on the gear icon.

Now you have to choose the App & notifications option. Then you have to click on it and there you will get the Advanced option.

In the Advanced option, you will get Special app access and you have to click on it. You have to scroll down a little bit and then you will get the desired Display over other apps option. You have to click on it and get several apps that use this feature and you can disable this feature by clicking on them.

How to Turn Off Screen Overlay in Android Marshmallow or Nougat

You have to pull down the notification bar twice and there you will get a gear icon. You have to click on that icon.

After scrolling down a bit you will get the Apps option and you have to click on it. A new page will be opened with the list of your user apps. On the top of that page, you will get a gear button again and you have to click on it.

There you have to scroll down a little bit and then you will get the special access option. Draw over other apps will be found and you have to tap on it. Then you will get those apps that have access to screen overlay. Now clicking on a certain app you can enable as well as disable this feature.

How to Disable Screen Overlay in Samsung

If you are a Samsung user, then you have to follow the following steps.

At first, you have to pull down the notification bar from the top of your home screen. There you will get the gear button and you have to tap on it.

Then you will get a new page called settings and you have to scroll a little down. There you will get applications option and you have to click on it.

There you will get the Application manager option and you will get a more option on the top of the page. By clicking on it, you will get  App on the top option. You have to click on the option.

You will get the apps with toggle option and only by clicking on those options you can easily disable screen overlay.

How to Disable Screen Overlay in LG Devices

At first, you have to pull down the notification bar to have easy access to settings. In the settings, you have to scroll a little bit to have the apps option.

When you explore the apps section, you will get a three-dot overflow option, and clicking on it you will get the Configure apps option. Now you have to go with this option and there you will get the Draw over other apps. By clicking on it you have to go to the apps which have access to screen overlay. You can now disable as well as enable this feature.

When you do not know the procedure of disabling the screen overlay option and frequently face this problem, you will get a feeling like throwing out your phone. Though it seems annoying, you can easily get rid of this problem by following the above steps. So do not stress out and enjoy these steps.
