The network connection can be public or private. Based on our needs we change from one setting to another. Generally, a Windows device sets its network in public by default. But sometimes we need to change its connection from public to private. This article will show you the method on how to change ethernet connection from public to private in Windows 10.

Why Does Sometimes Ethernet Connection Need to Change From Public to Private?

When Windows 10 is set up and connected to the network for the first time, it generally sets its connection to Public. For any unknown connection to Windows, it is set as Public. Also, it is a safe option. Public connection gives protection to its maximum. It keeps your device away from any sharing files or any printer connection. Basically, it makes our device invisible in the network. But sometimes we need to share files, use a printer, or browse another device by using the network. In that time Ethernet connection needs to be changed from public to private.

Method to Change Network Connection From Public to Private

To change network connection from public to private in Windows 10, you need to follow the instructions given below. These are

  • For this firstly you need to know the connection type. You have to click on the windows icon which is bottom left of your screen.
  • Then you need to select Settings options.

  • A new screen will appear on your display. There will be some options. You have to select ‘Network & Internet from the options.

  • After this in the ‘Network Status’ section, your connection will be shown whether it is public or private. If it is public you need to change it to private.
  • In the left panel of your screen under ‘Network & Internet,’ you can find an option named ‘Status’. You need to click on the option.
  • Then you need to select the ‘Properties’ option. A screen will appear.

  • Here you need to click on the circle ‘Private’. The connection change is done.

  • After finishing work it is safe to change again to Public.

The default Windows 10 network connection is Public. It is important to keep your device safe from different cyber-attacks such as viruses, ransomware attack, hacking, or malfunction. That’s why keeping the connection in Public is always a good option. But sometimes to share files or other purposes the connection needs to be Private.
