How to Lock and Unlock Taskbar in Windows 10

The taskbar is an element that we find in the bottom screen of the display screen of Windows. We can find it by default on our PC. This toolbar is an operating system that can easily launch and locate various programs from the Start menu. The main idea of the taskbar is first used in Windows 95 and then it is used in all the versions which are released after that. The taskbar can be moved and resized. The position can be changed to top, to right, and left. Also, the height of the taskbar can be increased. But you cannot change its width. In this article, we’ll discuss how to lock and unlock the taskbar in Windows 10 32 or 64-bit.

The taskbar is a very useful tool. It can allow you to open many windows and show you the applications which are running. You can easily switch between them when you need them. The taskbar can also show you the date and time, the charging condition of your PC, and important notifications.

Sometimes many windows are open or many displays can be connected to the computer. You can accidentally move to another window in the taskbar. Also, each display has a taskbar on it which has no clock or notification area and various third-party toolbars can be seen. So to prevent this, we have to lock the taskbar.

How to Lock and Unlock Taskbar

Locking of the taskbar ensures you remain intact of the taskbar with the changes that have been made earlier. By locking the taskbar, we can get the default taskbar on each display. There are some methods to lock and unlock the taskbar of your PC. You can choose one according to your preference. You can also change other taskbar settings via the Windows registry. The options of locking and unlocking the taskbar are described below.

Method 1: Lock or Unlock the Taskbar From the Taskbar

Different versions of Windows have different procedures. Though all of them are quite similar. In windows 10, you can lock or unlock the taskbar by using the taskbar from your bottom of the display screen. The steps are

1. At first to right click on the taskbar.

2.  From the menu which will appear you have to choose “Lock the taskbar” then a tick mark will be seen.

3. Then to unlock this, again you have to right click on the taskbar.

4. Then choose the “lock the taskbar” from the menu and the tick mark will be disappeared.

Method 2: Lock or Unlock Taskbar from Options

You can also lock or unlock your taskbar from the setting menu. You can also sync your settings. The steps for the taskbar are:

1. You have to open the settings by searching from the settings from the right bottom of your PC or also by right pressing the mouse and then click the settings.

2. Then you have to choose personalization.

4.  You can lock the taskbar the taskbar by enabling “Lock the taskbar” option.

5. To unlock the taskbar, you have to just disable the “Lock the taskbar” option.

What if the methods are not working?

In case the methods are not working, you have some problems with your PC. The problems should be detected. If there is no problem with your PC, then there will be something else. Sometimes the PC is in tablet mode. These features do not work in tablet mode. So you have to turn off the tablet mode to lock or unlock the taskbar. You can also auto-hide the taskbar, or make it transparent for themes.
